FAQ

If you are considering hiring an air duct cleaning company, you might have some questions about the process and the benefits. Here are some FAQs that an air duct cleaning company might be asked:

Air duct cleaning is the process of removing dust, debris, mold, allergens and other contaminants from the ductwork that delivers air throughout your home or business. It is important because it can improve the indoor air quality, reduce the risk of respiratory problems, increase the efficiency of your HVAC system which can help lower your energy bills.

The frequency of air duct cleaning depends on several factors, such as the size and age of your property, the number and type of pets you have, the presence of smokers, the level of pollution in your area and any recent renovations or water damage. Generally, it is recommended to have your air ducts cleaned every 3 to 5 years, or more often if you notice signs of poor air quality, such as dust accumulation, musty odors, allergies or asthma symptoms.

The duration and cost of air duct cleaning vary depending on the size and condition of your ductwork, the number and location of vents and registers, the type of equipment and methods used and the level of service you choose. Typically, it takes 2 to 4 hours and costs between $300 and $700 for an average residential property. We can provide a quote over the phone, and sent to you via email. We quote based on total square foot of the property.

To ensure that you get a quality service and avoid scams, you should do some research before hiring an air duct cleaning company. Avoid companies that only charge “per vent”. A true air duct company company follows the NADCA cleaning standards that is recommended for the entire air duct system, and not just the supply vents. A thorough air duct cleaning should be done through air supply vents, all air returns, the plenum, air handler and blower wheel. It should all be included in a flat price, not ala carte.

You should also check their online reviews, ratings and references, and ask for proof of their credentials and experience. You should avoid companies that offer very low prices, use high-pressure sales tactics or claim to have special offers or discounts.

Great question! While most homes have air ducts, no two duct systems are exactly alike.
Ductwork can differ in:

  • Material (metal, flex duct, duct board)

  • Size and diameter

  • Layout and design

  • Furnace or air handler location

  • Number of supply and return vents

  • Accessibility (attic, crawlspace, basement, roof)

Because of this, professional air duct cleaners adjust their tools and techniques to fit your specific system.
This is why true specialists—like Colorado Duct Doctors—never take a one-size-fits-all approach.

Customizing the equipment means selecting the right size and type of:

  • Air whips, brushes, and agitation tools
(Different sizes and materials work better on different types of ductwork.)

  • Vacuum suction strength
(Bigger systems need more power; fragile systems need controlled suction to prevent damage.)

  • Air hoses, rods, and lengths
(We adjust based on your home’s layout to reach the entire system.)

We assess your system before we start, so the cleaning is effective without risking damage.

You risk:

  • Incomplete cleaning, leaving debris behind.

  • Damage to delicate ductwork, especially flex duct or ductboard.

  • Wasting money on a cheap service that doesn’t actually improve airflow or air quality.

Some companies use carpet cleaning equipment or underpowered vacuums that aren’t designed for full-system duct cleaning.
At Colorado Duct Doctors, ventilation is all we do, and we use specialized, professional equipment designed for thorough, safe results.
